Controller
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller to manage and oversee the financial activities within our real estate company. The ideal candidate will have experience in accounting, financial reporting, and real estate finance and will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial operations.
As Controller, you will work in a senior management/executive role in a private full-service real estate investment/property management company.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance.
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Oversee the preparation of financial reports for internal management and external stakeholders (investors, lenders, auditors).
- Monitor cash flow, financial performance, and profitability of real estate projects.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, and reporting standards, including real estate-specific guidelines (e.g., tax credits, property depreciation).
- Coordinate audits and assist with financial reporting for tax filings.
- Supervise the payment obligations like CSC, Biennial Filing Fees, Delaware Secretary of State Annual Fees.
- Process NYC UBT quarterly payments as needed.
- Assist with the preparation of RPIEs (Real Property Income and Expense) filings.
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and internal controls.
- Collaborate with project managers and department heads to develop budgets and forecasts for real estate development and property management activities.
- Conduct financial analysis and variance reporting to support decision-making and financial planning.
- Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, and financial institutions.
- Supervise and mentor a team of accounting staff, providing training and professional development.
- Initiate Wire Transfers upon request. Review and release wires upon the request of other banks.
- Assist Broker inquiries regarding commission payments.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 10 years in real estate.
- Strong understanding of real estate accounting, financial analysis, and financial modeling.
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., Yardi Voyager 8, Yardi Pay, and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects, and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of real estate tax laws and financial regulations.
- Leadership experience and the ability to manage and mentor a team.
Preferred:
- Experience in property management, real estate development, or real estate investment trust (REIT).
- Knowledge of commercial and residential real estate accounting.
