A NYC Owner and operator of commercial, residential and hotel properties is looking for a Controller with real estate experience.

Position Key Tasks:

• Maintain internal controls and safeguards
• Oversee financial reporting and operational performance of a diverse real estate portfolio, including residential, commercial, and hospitality assets.
• Review all third-party project financial statements and coordinate with property managers to ensure accurate reporting.
• Process accounts payable, deposits, and intercompany/external cash transfers for ancillary entities.
• Perform alternate operating account bank reconciliations and prepare daily/weekly cash reports for owner review.
• Manage monthly debt service journal entries, capital calls, mortgage abstracts, and schedules.
• Maintain personal and business real estate tax schedules; execute all 1099 processes.
• Prepare and manage tax certiorari work for properties under appeal.
• Process hotel sales tax filings accurately and timely.
• Produce and submit quarterly compliance packages to banks and coordinate with third-party CPA firms on requests.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, investment waterfall analysis, and job cost accounting for construction and capital projects.
• Ensure compliance with city, state, and federal regulations as they relate to taxes, payroll, and benefits.

Knowledge and Competencies:

Knowledge: Strong knowledge of accounting principles, proficiency in accounting Software (Yardi preferred), skilled in Excel with the ability to create complex spreadsheets to track, analyze and audit data.

Education:

B.S. in Accounting or Finance

Experience:

Required: 7+ years general accounting experience with proven record of growth and leadership preferably with real estate industry exposure

Certifications & Licenses:

CPA preferred
