Senior Property Accountant
SEEKING: Senior Property Accountant
A New York-based real estate firm is seeking a Senior Property Accountant to handle full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of commercial and multifamily properties. This role guarantees precise property-level financial statements, oversees tenant and lease accounting, and provides ownership and asset management with timely reports and analysis.
The ideal candidate must have extensive experience in property management accounting, lease administration, and CAM reconciliations, with the ability to oversee multiple properties and meet deadlines in a fast-paced real estate environment.
Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM, full-time
Responsibilities:
Property-Level Accounting
Oversee complete accounting processes for assigned
- Prepare and review monthly property financial
- Record accruals, depreciation, and adjusting journal
- Reconcile bank accounts, operating accounts, and security deposit
- Ensure accuracy of the general ledger for multiple property entities
- Monitor capital spending and construction-in-progress
Tenant & Lease Accounting
Review lease abstracts and verify accurate rent
- Record rental income, escalations, percentage rent, and lease
- Manage tenant billing and accounts receivable
- Monitor delinquency reports and collaborate with property
- Prepare and reconcile CAM (Common Area Maintenance)
- Manage security deposits and tenant
Budgeting & Reporting
Assist with preparing annual property
- Conduct monthly variance analysis comparing the budget and previous
- Compile financial reporting packages for ownership and asset
- Support lender and investor reporting obligations
- Assist with cash flow analysis and
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure adherence to GAAP and company accounting policies
- Assist with annual audits and collaborate with external
- Maintain internal controls related to property financial
- Ensure adherence to lender covenants and reporting deadlines
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- 7+ years of property accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting
- Proficiency with Yardi (required)
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience managing multiple properties or entities
Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of lease structures (gross, NNN, modified gross)
- Experience with CAM reconciliations and tenant billing
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to meet strict reporting deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Effective communication with property managers and asset managers
